Remote Sensing and GIS Unit
|
The
Remote Sensing and GIS Unit is one of the major unites at the Water Research
Center, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia that aims to enhance
both teaching and research in the field of remote sensing and GIS applications,
especially, in the fields of geology, hydrogeology, agriculture and
environment. The unit also carries out advanced research related to the
application of remote sensing and spatial analysis in water resources
management and sustainability.
Vision
To apply remote sensing, GIS and modeling techniques as tools to enhance water resources management and utilization in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Expertise
Our expertise includes but is not limited to:
- Hydrological and Hydrogeological Applications
- Geological Applications
- Environmental Applications
- Agricultural Applications

- Provide researchers the necessary arrangement for carrying out mapping activities associated with their research projects, as well as the research in the field of Remote Sensing, GIS and hydrological modeling
- Develop an integrated approach to study hydrogeological aspects
- Investigate processes and factors controlling the movement of groundwater
- Delineate groundwater potential zones, Western Saudi Arabia using integration, analyses and modeling of various relevant Geo-hydro-data sets
- Develop and generate Digital Elevation Models (DEM) with relevant grid sizes for subsequent watershed analyses
- Develop hydrological databases
